Size: Reaches roughly 5 to 8 feet tall and 3 to 6 feet wide at maturity, often maintaining a shrub-like or compact specimen profile.
Foliage: Heart-shaped leaves emerge in spring almost solidly white with green speckles, transition in summer to green with white flecks or accents, and turn yellow in autumn.
Blooms: Drenched in rosy-purple, sweet pea-like flowers along bare branches in early spring before the leaves fully emerge.
Hardiness: Thrives in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 6 through 9 (-20°F cold tolerance).
Care & Cultivation
Sun Exposure: Full sun to partial shade; benefits from afternoon shade in particularly hot southern climates.
Soil Requirements: Adaptable to clay, loam, or sandy soils, provided they feature good drainage. Redbuds dislike waterlogged or soggy soil.
Maintenance: Low-maintenance with no required pruning outside of removing occasional damaged or stray branches.
