Glossy dark green, oval, deciduous leaves turning outstanding scarlet, orange and yellow in fall

Full sun to partial shade

Straight-species Black Gum is native to Missouri and fully hardy (zone 4a and warmer); this narrow columnar selection performs well in central MO given acidic, well-drained soil, though chlorosis can occur in the region's higher-pH soils

Strongly columnar/narrowly upright habit with a dominant central leader, much narrower than the species; excellent for tight spaces or street-tree use; outstanding fall color and attractive furrowed bark
