Size: Grows 20 to 35 feet tall and 12 to 20 feet wide with a neat, upright, pyramidal form.
Flowers: Large, cup-shaped yellow flowers (up to 3–8 inches across) appear in early to mid-spring before or as the leaves emerge.
Origin: Developed at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden in 1977 as a cross between the Asian Yulan magnolia (Magnolia denudata) and the native cucumber tree (Magnolia acuminata). It was the first yellow-flowering magnolia introduced to the commercial plant market.
Sunlight: Best grown in full sun to partial shade.
Soil: Requires organically rich, well-drained, acidic to neutral soil. It dislikes standing water.
Maintenance: Needs minimal pruning, best done immediately after flowering. Its fleshy root system is easily damaged, so pick a permanent planting spot carefully.
